International Visitor Leadership Program
Summary of the first three days of the trip as part of the IVLP program
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) aims to promote international cooperation through high-level professional exchanges. This program is a unique opportunity for CSB.SCHOOL, as it allows us to broaden our perspectives, strengthen our network and update our knowledge in the field of cybersecurity, benefiting directly from American expertise. Here is an overview of the first three days of the trip of Patrice CHELIM, founder of the school:
Day 1: Start of the program
The first day began at the Meridian International Center, with a rich discussion led by Emily Allen, Senior Cybersecurity Advisor for the Office of Cyberspaces and Digital Policy. The meeting discussed the critical importance of EU-US cooperation in combating cyber threats. It was a particularly relevant session for the school, as it provided insight into the challenges of limited resources and budgets, issues we also face in our development efforts.
Next, a session at Georgetown University with Eric Langenbacher provided an overview of American federalism, a useful perspective for understanding the policy implications of managing multi-layered cybersecurity issues in the United States.
Day 2: Threats and international collaborations
The second day was marked by discussions at the US State Department, with a focus on the evolution of cyber threats, particularly in the run-up to the US elections. This exchange was an opportunity to discuss trust issues and the importance of building cybersecurity capabilities.
The day continued with a meeting with JD Work, where we delved deeper into the concepts we already teach at CSB.SCHOOL: cyber risk is measured by the equation [threats x vulnerabilities x impact]. This moment was also an opportunity to reinforce our teachings with concrete examples of application.
Day 3: Meeting at the Pentagon and strategic in-depth discussion
On the third day, Patrice Chelim had the chance to visit the Pentagon and meet with cybersecurity officials from the Department of Defense. The day’s agenda included a detailed presentation of the cybersecurity strategy for the U.S. defense industrial base, which resonates particularly with French efforts within the framework of the BITD (Defense Industrial and Technological Base).
Enriching discussions followed with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and CISA, on critical infrastructures and the challenges to overcome to better share sensitive information. These meetings underline the importance of a holistic approach to cybersecurity, an area that we wish to strengthen for CSB.SCHOOL.
These first days have already allowed us to acquire valuable perspectives, which we will be able to apply directly to the benefit of our school and our students.
The adventure continues…
