V.A.E process
The Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE) is a system for acquiring professional certification through the recognition of professional and personal experience.
This can help achieve certain goals such as:
- Gaining employability in the labor market
- Grow professionally
- Breaking the “glass ceiling” related to degree requirements
- Validate your skills through official recognition
- The prerequisite for enrolling in a VAE process is to have at least 1 year of professional experience directly related to the entire competency framework for the certification in question.
The candidate can apply for this scheme throughout the year.
The candidate will receive an opinion on the admissibility two months after the submission of the admissibility file.
The VAE allows the partial or total acquisition of the certification.
The duration of a VAE process is variable and depends on the investment of the candidate in the constitution of his VAE file (sometimes called booklet 2 VAE). However, we can estimate the duration between 6 months and 18 months.
The VAE at CSB.School is accessible to people with disabilities.
One procedure, four phases
The Validation of Acquired Experience procedure takes place in 4 phases:
- Feasibility study of the request
- Study of the admissibility of the request,
- Realization of the VAE file,
- Going to jury
This procedure aims to fulfill several qualitative objectives:
On the certifier side
Ensure the smooth running of the procedure in order to meet the criteria of requirement and rigor of our certifications, in particular decree n ° 85-906 of August 23, 1985 and decree n ° 2002-590 of April 24, 2002.
On the side of the candidate
Limit administrative and procedural difficulties through administrative and educational support throughout the process.
The support of candidates in VAE is a fundamental point for the success of the process. CSB.SCHOOL offers quality support, adapted to each candidate, key to their success.
This support covers the writing phase of the VAE file and the preparation for the oral defense.
Phase one: Feasibility of the VAE
The VAE adviser studies your request and advises you on the feasibility of your VAE approach.
This results in the first telephone and/or email exchanges. In order to position themselves on your profile, the VAE advisor will ask you:
- Your CV
- A cover letter outlining your professional project
- If your profile and project are consistent with the VAE and the professional certification targeted, you can start the VAE process in practice.
The CSB.School will then ask you to contractually commit to the process by signing a VAE agreement explaining the different phases of the process and the related prices.
During this phase, you will be able to address the accommodation needs necessary to take into account a possible situation of disability.
Phase 2: Admissibility of the application
The admissibility phase allows the candidate to concretize his entry into the VAE process. The objective of this phase is to allow the CSB.School to officially position itself on the admissibility of the application. Before sending your file, we advise you to also read the explanatory note of the request for admissibility to the VAE. This document can be downloaded here.
To compile your admissibility file, you will need to provide:
- The cerfa 12818*02 completed (downloadable here)
- An ID
- Your detailed CV (which can fit on several pages)
- Proof of your certifications obtained and training courses taken in connection with the certification in question
- Your cover letter presenting your project in connection with the VAE approach
- The grid making the link between the competency framework of the certification concerned and your experiences (blank document communicated to the candidate during the feasibility phase)
- The signed VAE agreement (document communicated to the candidate at the end of the feasibility phase)

Your file is presented to the pedagogical commission composed of the Director General, the Academic Dean and a professional extern. The VAE commission verifies the conditions of access to the VAE and the correspondence between the certification competency framework and the professional and personal experiences of the candidate.
A maximum of two months after receipt of your complete file, the candidate will receive an admissibility notice issued by the educational commission: favorable opinion, reserved opinion or unfavorable opinion.
At the end of this admissibility phase, the candidate can choose to end their VAE process. In all cases, the candidate must pay the amount of the admissibility phase amounting to €300 excluding VAT. If the candidate decides to continue the process, he then commits to writing the VAE file and the support process. He will be able to appear before the jury once his VAE file has been fully finalized.
Phase 3: Completion of the VAE file
Writing the VAE file requires a strong personal commitment on the part of the candidate. The candidate will nevertheless be accompanied during this phase on the methodology to be adopted in order to constitute his file. The candidate will also benefit from the opinions of an educational referent and a professional referent on the quality of his file. The support therefore aims to promote the candidate’s success in acquiring the professional certification targeted by the VAE.

Methodological support:
This support is provided by the VAE referent of the CSB.School.
It is broken down into 4 main steps:
- A first interview (individual or collective) of two hours allowing to present to the candidate, on the one hand the whole process of VAE, and on the other hand the methodology to be adopted to write the file of VAE. The candidate then works independently on writing their VAE file.
- A second one-hour interview with the VAE referent in order to take stock of the progress of the drafting of the VAE file. The candidate can then express their difficulties.
- A third one-hour interview with the VAE referent in order to critically read a first completed version of the VAE file. The VAE referent will inform the candidate of his comments on this first draft. => Following this interview, the candidate will be able to benefit from educational and professional support.
- A fourth interview (individual or collective) of two hours with the VAE referent in order to prepare the candidate for the appearance before the jury: procedure of the jury, role of the different members of the jury, types of questions asked, attitude to adopt, role plays, etc.
Beyond these interviews, the VAE referent is available to the candidate for support by email/telephone throughout the service. This remote support can be mobilized within the limit of a workload of 6 hours. The support by the VAE referent is therefore over 12 hours: 6 hours face-to-face synchronously and 6 hours remotely/asynchronously.
Educational and professional support
Two referents are appointed to receive the candidate for an interview, lasting two hours each:
- A pedagogical referent, teacher of the CSB.SCHOOL who will have the mission during this interview to evaluate the adequacy between the course and the professional certification and to guide the candidate on the expectations of the jury with regard to the courses given within the framework of training.
- A professional referent in activity, if possible involved in the training, whose mission will be to check the adequacy between the experiences of the candidate and the reference framework of skills of the professional certification concerned.
This support takes place over a period of 4 hours face-to-face. At the end of the interviews, the professional and educational referents write a report and make observations on any shortcomings they may have observed.
The CSB.SCHOOL will adapt the total duration of the support phase and the time between the different stages of the support according to the candidate’s progress in writing their file. However, in order to guarantee a certain involvement, this duration cannot exceed one year.
The candidate agrees in the VAE agreement to pay the total cost of the support from the start of it.
Phase 4: Going to jury
Upon receipt of the finalized version of the VAE file, the VAE adviser triggers the organization of the jury.
The VAE jury is made up of 5 members:
- A president, member of the management of CSB.SCHOOL
- The pedagogical referent
- A teaching member
- The professional referent
- A professional member
i.e. 3 teachers and 2 professionals.
A VAE jury lasts about 2 hours:
- About 30 minutes of presentation of the VAE file by the candidate
- about an hour of question and answer
- Approximately 30 minutes of jury deliberation.
At the end of the interview, the VAE jury writes its decision, specifying the blocks of skills granted. This takes the form of a grid, based on the skills repository, explaining the validated skills and the non-validated skills. The jury identifies the aptitudes, skills and knowledge that require an additional assessment necessary to obtain the targeted professional certification. The decision is notified to the candidate.
Cost of a VAE
- Feasibility phase: free
- Admissibility phase: €300 excluding VAT
On the basis of the admissibility file, the educational committee issues an opinion of admissibility: Favorable / reserved / unfavorable
- Bachelor support phase: €2,500 excl. tax
- Master support phase: €3,000 excl. tax

- Bachelor jury: 1500€ excl. tax
- Masters Jury: 2000€ excl. VAT

After the VAE, the “Post-VAE”
In the event of partial validation, according to the recommendations of the jury, the candidate will be required to:
- follow training modules
- take tests/assessments
- write and defend a dissertation
The candidate will be accompanied by the VAE referent of the CSB.SCHOOL and will be offered a course allowing him to validate the missing skills. This post-VAE course will be the subject of a specific contract, fully adapted to the decision of the VAE jury.
